Pathankot airbase among 4 defence units on orange alert

In a major warning, the alert level at four defence establishments, including Pathankot, where the IAF base was attacked in 2016, has been upgraded to “orange level” in anticipation of an imminent terror strike, highly placed sources in the intelligence establishment told TOI on Tuesday.

Inputs suggested a strike could be attempted by a Pakistan-based terror outfit between September 25 and 30. The input also said the security threat may be upgraded to “red level” at the discretion of the defence establishments concerned. There have been persistent reports since the August 5 nullification of J&K’s special status that terror groups, with the prompting of Pakistan military, were looking to stage a major attack.

Intelligence agencies have asked the defence establishment to carry out a security review. The alert specifies four locations, including Pathankot and Udhampur. Read More
