Women entry into NDA only by next May, need time to create necessary infra: Govt to SC

By ET News

The central government told the Supreme Court on Tuesday that the necessary infrastructure for letting women join the armed forces through the National Defence Academy, including “separate accommodation with robust physical separation between the male and female residential areas” and “bathrooms” will be in place only by May 2022, effectively pushing back their entry till May 2022.

A notification for acceptance of women into the armed forces through the NDA will only be issued by that date, an additional affidavit filed by the ministry of defence said.

A top court bench led by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul had asked the central government to allow women to appear for the NDA exam this year pending the outcome of proceedings in the Kush Kalra case.

The government has agreed in principle to this but is holding out for this year on the ground of inadequacy of infrastructure necessary for the shift.
