Shringla’s London trip to assess UK’s Afghan plan

By ET News

India will try to get a sense of UK’s plan for Afghanistan and explore to frame a common position for achieving stability in and around the landlocked country during the foreign secretary’s July 23-24 visit to London.

The UK is understood to have conveyed to India that while it engaged with the Pakistan army on the Af-Pak theatre, it had not anticipated the Taliban surge that has put the international community including big powers and regional actors on the back foot, forcing them to prepare contingency plans, ET has learnt.

Foreign secretary Harsh Shringla’s visit, planned at a short notice, will be an opportunity to discuss all critical issues including regional developments like Afghanistan and the Indo-Pacific region with the Boris Johnson government, people familiar with the matter said.
