Vehicular traffic on Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch National Highway was suspended for around three hours on Saturday after security forces recovered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) from the road.
Acting on specific information that suspicious moment had taken place in Dalogra area along the highway in Jammu and Kasmir’s Rajouri district, traffic was immediately suspended and an operation was launched during which security forces detected an IED.
The bomb disposal squad (BDS) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police defused the explosive.
The latest incident of an IED recovery comes days after a hexacopter drone carrying 5 kg of explosive material was shot down in Jammu’s Akhnoor sector. Police officials had said the IEDs attached to the drone “resembles the ones found with the payloads dropped” on the technical airport at Air Force Station Jammu in the wee hours of June 27. Two Indian Air Force personnel had sustained minor injuries in the first of its kind attack on an Indian defence establishment.
The same day, IEDs were recovered from several locations in Jammu and Kashmir. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is probing the case and conducted raids at 14 places on Saturday, July 31.
