GRSE bags $1.8m Bangla order for patrol boats

By Times Of India

Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) has bagged an order worth $1.8 million to build six patrol boats that can operate even in shallow waters.

GRSE, which builds and repairs commercial and naval vessels, competed with international players from Europe and Asia to secure the order through a competitive bidding process. The boats will be used by the Bangladesh department of fisheries as marine surveillance check post to curb illegal fishing activities and retrieval of survivors when boats capsize in inclement weather.

The 13-metre-long patrol crafts will be fitted with water jet drive, suitable for shallow water operation up to 0.6 metre.

The Miniratna PSU under the ministry of defence has exported the first ‘Made in India’ warship — a multipurpose offshore patrol vessel (OPV) CGS Barracuda — to the Mauritius Coast Guard. It also delivered a fast patrol vessel (FPV) to the Seychelles and has bagged an order for construction and supply of an ocean-going passenger and cargo vessel for Guyana.

GRSE has been exporting pre-fabricated steel bridges to Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar & Sri Lanka for use in disaster management.
