United States Defence Secretary Lloyd J Austin arrived in India on Friday with a bunch of critical issues on his plate to discuss with his Indian counterpart Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, one of them being the imminent concern of an adventurous China.
Upon his arrival, Austin called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Prime Minister welcomed Austin and underlined the warm and close relationship between the two countries. The PM outlined his vision for the strategic partnership between US and India and emphasized the important role of bilateral defence cooperation in India-US ties.
Ways and means to strengthen India-US strategic relations, boost cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region in the face of a belligerent China and the Afghanistan peace process are some of the issues on the agenda when Austin and Singh meet on Saturday.
The US Defence Secretary then met National Security Advisor Ajit Doval in New Delhi. He is expected to meet External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar before meeting the Defence Minister.
