India ignites production of Pinaka II rocket systems

The Indian MoD is procuring Pinaka Mk II multiple rocket launchers developed indigenously by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for artillery regiments of the Indian Army.

The order for Pinaka launchers, battery command posts and associated engineering support package has gone to Larsen & Toubro (L&T) for four regiments’ worth, and for another two regiments to Tata Strategic Engineering Division. Induction is to be completed by 2024.

This is the first time the Pinaka system will be equipped with a navigation, guidance and control kit.

Government-owned BEML was simultaneously awarded a contract to supply 330 heavy-duty trucks for the Pinaka project, valued at around $126 million.
