India needs more political will over Gilgit-Baltistan

A prominent leader of Gilgit-Baltistan was invited to a seminar in India where he deplored saying “we are the forgotten people of the forgotten lands of Bharat”. He beseeched that our country (implying India) does not know of their own people there.

Enquired about whether he wants to stay in India, he replied that he has been called only after 60 years that too on an American visa and now been asked whether he wants to reside in India. He implored that India must open up its IITs/IIMs for students from Gilgit-Baltistan and AIIMS for treatment of Gilgit-Baltistan residents to convince them that India is sincere; it thinks of and cares for them.

Pakistan Army unleashes untold suffering on the people of Gilgit-Baltistan but Pakistan media totally blacks out the news. Even India’s national newspapers don’t carry those ghastly incidents. He entreated Indians to impart a feeling that India is with the people of Gilgit-Baltistan.

Pakistan always fabricates stories to show off its solidarity with the Kashmir cause. No Indian leader has ever expressed solidarity with the people of Gilgit-Baltistan. The Indian government has never given a feeling that Gilgit-Baltistan people are Indians and all the assistance they need will be given. Assurance does wonders. Congress government never made a statement on the Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) that Gilgit-Baltistan belongs to India.
