The defence ministry just approved funds amounting to Rs 38,000 crore for the procurement of 38 Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA).
Make in India
The Tejas is combat aircraft designed and manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited; the government is procuring a more advanced version of the aircraft this time – the Mk1A, a variant of the Mk1 already delivered.
Ready for combat
The aircraft was inducted into the IAF squadron Flying Daggers on July 1, 2016 and given the Final Operational Clearance (FOC), signalling its combat readiness. (Representative Image)
The first of the upgraded fighters will be delivered within three years – with HAL currently at a production capacity of eight craft per annum for the earlier order.
