Lt Gen Kalita becomes 2nd from NE to be appointed GOC of 3 Corps

Lieutenant General Rana Pratap Kalita, who was appointed as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Nagaland’s Dimapur-based 3 Corps, has become the second from Northeast to be appointed as a corps commander, the first being Lt Gen HK Singh (retd) of Manipur. Lt Gen Kalita is the first Assamese army officer to be appointed as a Corps commander.

An alumni of Sainik School, Goalpara in Assam, Lt Gen Kalita earlier served as the Chief of Staff in Eastern Command. Commissioned in the 9 Kumaon Regiment in 1984, and was elevated to the rank of lieutenant general in March last year. He is currently the Chief of Staff (COS) in the Eastern Command of the Indian army at Fort William in Kolkata.

As per reports, he is decorated with ‘Sena Medal’ and ‘Vishisht Seva Medal’ (twice for his outstanding service). He has also commanded the 19th infantry division at Barmulla LOC, and was awarded Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2018.
