The first ever HADR (Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief) exercise between the Indian and Myanmar Air Force (MAF) culminated at Air Force station Bamrauli, on Thursday.
On the last day of exercise, participants were shown live demonstration of evacuation of stranded people from disaster struck area by Mi-17 helicopter. IAF team also demonstrated causality evacuation procedure and communication setup (a vital part of HADR operation) to the Myanmar Air Force team.
Defence PRO, Prayagraj, Wng Cdr Shailendra Pandey informed that Air Cmde Suresh, in his closing address, said both air forces participating members, in three day long exercise were able to understand commonality of procedures in undertaking HADR operations.
Participants learned from each other’s best practices. They shared communication and IT capabilities to manage flow of information and media interaction.
Participants deliberated on mechanism for managing causalities, mortal remains and specialised treatment. Contact details were also shared for effective and faster handling of joint HADR missions in future. In the end both team leaders exchanged mementos as token of remembrance.
The exercises of this nature with the foreign countries in general and neighbours in particular helps in understanding each other’s working culture, capabilities and provide opportunity to establish a healthy relationship which comes handy during crisis situation, he said.
MAF members took this opportunity to see the beautiful Prayagraj city and visited places like Sangam, Akbar fort, Anand Bhawan and museum.
