Three militants gunned down in J&K’s Shopian in an encounter

An encounter broke between militants and security forces in Wachi village of Shopian district in south Kashmir on Monday morning. All three militants hiding in the village were gunned down by the security forces.

A joint team of Indian Army’s 55 Rashtriya Rifles and Special Group of J&K police cordoned the Wachi village early morning on Monday after specific input was received about presence of two to three militants in the area.

During the cordon and search, militants hiding in a residential house fired at the security forces which led to an encounter. The terrorists belonged to Hizbul Mujahideen and were involved in many cases of terror crime.

One of the terrorists killed in the encounter, identified as Adil Sheikh of Zainapora village in Shopian, was responsible for looting eight weapons from the residence of the then-PDP MLA Ajaj Mir in Zawahar Nagar in Srinagar on September 29, 2018.
